Welcome to Pro-Bone-O's web site, home to a non-profit organization that provides a much needed service to those who have no other resources - free veterinary care to pets of people who are homeless.

This year we are celebrating our 10th year of operation and we are honored to continue serving the neediest of our community's population.

And we had a PARTY!!!!  It was a "Bone-a-fit" at both Bare Bones Dog Wash locations. On June 7th, for every dirty dog willing to be washed by its human, Pro-Bone-O received 50% of the cost to get squeeky-clean.

We want to thank Connie and her crew at both locations. They could not have made us feel more welcome. We had so much fun working with them. And our volunteers? We couldn't have done it without them, so THANK YOU  Maatha, Jenn K, Cathy, Jen B, Kathy, Rachel, (and Milo),  Stephanie, Helen, Anne, Kylia, Jeannie, Teayanna, Maureen and Vicki!

Spot Magazine's  photographers took photos of some potential cover models at our River Road location.

And, Arthur Richards, professional photographer (Animals-Only-Photography), snapped some really great shots.

See more of Arthur's wonderful photos here.

Last, but not least, we had a RAFFLE!  Some wonderful prizes were won by some lucky winners - gift certificates for our four-legged friends and for our two legged friends. Thank you to all who participated to make it so successful. Click here to see who won!

What Is Pro-Bone-O?

Pro-Bone-O is a non-profit organization that provides free veterinary services for the pets of people who are homeless in the Lane County area.

The services are provided through clinics held the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month throughout the year. The clinics are set up in space donated by St. Vincent dePaul at its Lindholm Service Center in Eugene, Oregon.

What Are Pro-Bone-O's Goals?

Pro-Bone-O has three primary goals:

  1. Improve the health and well-being for pets of people who are homeless and cannot afford veterinary care.
  2. Prevent unwanted litters through education, and when possible, offering financial assistance for spaying and neutering.
  3. Stop the spread of infectious diseases and parasites in the community

Who Is Pro-Bone-O?

In one word: volunteers. Approximately 18 veterinarians and veterinary technicians from the Lane County area donate their time and expertise. Each clinic is staffed by one veterinarian and 1 or 2 techs. Each clinic is coordinated by one Board member and 2 or 3 community volunteers.

Many local veterinarians who are unable to volunteer at the clinics donate supplies, medicine, equipment, pet food, and flea products.

Behind the scenes there are countless volunteers working to organize and run the clinics, raise funds, collect donated supplies, vaccines and medicines. All food provided to the pets is donated by area merchants and vets.

What Services Does Pro-Bone-O Provide?

  •  Vaccines
  •  Well-pet check-ups
  •  Treatment for minor illnesses, diseases, and wounds
  •  Food, collars, leashes, crates, shampoos, vitamins, treats
  •  Friendly, safe environment

Who Does Pro-Bone-O Serve?

Pro-Bone-O provides services to homeless people, those who do not have a fixed, regular, or adequate residence. We consider someone homeless in these situations:

  •  Living in a transitional or emergency shelter
  •  Living in a trailer park, campground, or car
  •  Living in inadequate housing that lacks electricity, plumbing, and heating
  •  Living in a motel, hotel, or short-term (1-2 weeks) apartment
  •  Living temporarily with a friend/relative because housing is lost

How Can You Help?

For Pro-Bone-O to continue to provide its services and to grow and expand, we need your help. Vaccines, medicines, and equipment take a lot of money and our veterinary community cannot provide enough to fill our continuing need. It is through donations that we are able to purchase these vital items. Please consider supporting this worthy cause; visit our Donations page.

Your donation will mean that our clients will be able to keep and care for their pets. Just all all pet lovers do, they rely on their pets for love and companionship, and security in an uncertain world.

You can support us in other ways as well. Volunteer: work at a clinic; help with fund-raising ideas; organize public speaking engagements; prepare and distribute newsletters, media presentations - the options are endless!

Another way you can support Pro-Bone-O is through the purchase of items by joining iGive.com. For each purchase you make, a percentage of that sale is donated to Pro-Bone-O - an easy way to "donate" on the items you already buy.
