Pet Spotlight: Flo

Flo and Joey visited Pro-Bone-O for the first time in November. They walked 4 miles to the clinic so Flo could get the care she needed. Flo was able to get updated on her shots, got flea and deworming medication, and picked up some cool stuff from our Boutique. She also got lots of pets and treats from our volunteers. While Flo saw the vet, I talked with Joey about their story.

Joey shared, “Our 14-year-old dog had passed away, and I was ready to bring another pup into my home. I visited a pit bull rescue in Veneta for a different dog, but Flo came up, licked my husband's face, and we knew she had to come home with us.”

In the following years, Joey and Flo faced tough losses together. Joey lost her husband in 2022 and her mom a year later. Grieving and feeling alone, she thought about leaving this world. But thinking about Flo and their bond instantly changed her mind. She said, “She's my angel. She means so much to me. She has literally saved my life. Thinking about her face kept me alive.” After living in a car for a while, Joey made Flo a promise to get them their own apartment. “We've been through everything together. I make her promises that our life will get better, and I work very hard to keep that promise to her,” she said. Joey has been working hard to make that promise a reality. She starts a job at the end of November, is on the waitlist for permanent housing, and is enrolled at LCC to get her degree in Business Administration. Joey and Flo's connection shows how love and the human-animal bond can help us face tough times.
